Writing content for the web is a bit different from writing for a news paper or a magazine. For one, it is often much harder to keep someone’s attention while they read website. Here are a
few tips for writing copy on the web:
Short Paragraphs
One tip you should take to heart is to only type short paragraphs. Large blocks of text are not very inviting to web surfers. Staring at dense blocks of text on a computer monitor can strain your eyes. Including a series of shorter paragraphs is much more likely to keep your readers’ attention.
Headings
A second tip is to use headings and sub-headings. Headings and sub-headings help break up the page and make it more visually inviting to people browsing the website. The readers will also be able to quickly scan the page to find the information they are looking for instead of having to slowly search through different paragraphs. Keywords utilized in headings are also more likely to come up in a web search.
Poignant Writing
Third, make sure you keep your writing poignant. If your piece of writing does not have a point, why would you expect anyone to pay attention long enough to finish reading it? Also try to make your point rather early on in your writing and only use subsequent paragraphs as reinforcement. Long winded content that goes no where will be read by no one.
Relevant Content
Lastly, make sure the content will be relevant to the readers in some way and actually accomplish something. What it could accomplish could include entertaining your readers, informing them about some fact, or showing them how to accomplish some task.
Over All
Make sure your online content is easy to read, to the point, and something that will be useful to your readers. These
tips are the basics of online copywriting.
